Newtown High School

World Language Honor Society

Mural in NHS created by previous WLHS members

The Newtown High School World Language Honor Society is committed to increasing the knowledge and appreciation of language and culture throughout the Newtown community.

In order to meet our goal the World Language Honor Society provisional members need to complete 8 hours of staff approved community service.  They have completed these by getting involved in such activities as:

- Providing in-school tutoring to peers

- Providing after school tutoring to peers

- Acting as a classroom assistant to World Language teachers

- working on independent projects such as creating murals, teaching another language to peers, or teaching language to elementary students.

The tutoring is the most popular of the community service. To help meet our goals weoffer free tutoring and extra help throughout the school at a variety of times.  This tutoring is provided by peers and students can drop by anytime without an appointment for someone to help them study, to help them understand a concept, or just to ensure their understanding of the material.

A ceremony to honor the World Language Honor Society Members takes place in the Spring.
