Connecticut's Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy acknowledges that the mastery of two or more languages is a valuable asset for both individuals and their communities.  The Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition that students have demonstrated a mastery of 2 or more languages and is an honor approved and granted by the state of Connecticut.

The Seal of Biliteracy is an honor from the state of Connecticut with a Seal on their diploma that they are biliterate. Therefore students will be recognized for their mastery of language both on transcripts and diplomas.  Having this award and recognition truly sets a student apart for college entrance, future professions, and much more.

Mastery of the language is defined as having received an “Intermediate-Mid,” level of proficiency as determined by the national ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards. This means students can handle a variety of tasks related to everyday social situations and can use the language necessary for survival in the target culture.
